Meet The Team

At Sager & Sons Auto, Boise Idaho

Dan Sager

ASE Master Technician & Co-Owner

Dan Sager has spent over 25 years in the automotive repair industry, and the trade has been part of his life for even longer than that. Growing up alongside a father who worked as a factory GM technician, Dan didn't just learn how engines worked, he learned what it meant to take pride in your craft.

After moving to Boise in 2004, Dan spent years building his reputation as a technician before founding Sager & Sons Automotive in 2012. What started as a vision for an honest, family-run shop has grown into one of the Boise Bench's most trusted names in auto repair; built entirely on word of mouth, quality work, and a refusal to cut corners.

Dan holds ASE Master Technician certification, the highest credential in the trade, and is known throughout the Treasure Valley for solving the problems other shops can't figure out. He specializes in Ford gas and diesel diagnostics, advanced drivability concerns, complex electrical and module communication issues, engine and transmission diagnosis and replacement, and suspension and alignment correction. If the diagnosis is difficult, Dan usually wants to be the one looking at it.

What sets Dan apart isn't just his technical skill, it's his approach. He doesn't guess. He tests. He doesn't throw parts at a problem. He diagnoses it until he knows exactly what's wrong and why. Customers appreciate that he explains everything in plain language, without talking over them. His team respects that he still leads from the front, inspecting vehicles himself because he refuses to let important details get missed.

At the core of everything Dan does is a simple belief: fixing cars is about protecting families. Making sure people can safely get to work, drop their kids at school, and travel without fear of breaking down. He'd rather deliver a hard truth than sell someone something they don't need. His standard is straightforward, do what's right, even when nobody's watching.

Dan also cares deeply about the next generation. He works alongside his sons every day, teaching them the same principles he built his career on: integrity, discipline, craftsmanship, and pride in your work. For Dan, Sager & Sons has never just been a business. It's a family legacy something built to last, something worth being proud of.

"Solving the tough ones. The cars nobody else can figure out."

Katie Sager

Co-Owner & Operations Director

Katie is the operational and marketing force behind Sager & Sons Automotive, and the person most customers talk to before they ever meet the shop. While Dan is under the hood, Katie is making sure the rest of the experience runs just as well as the repair.

Katie came into the business with a background most auto shops don't have at the front desk. She's a builder by nature, having founded and run multiple businesses of her own, and she brought that same drive to Sager & Sons: sharpening the systems, the scheduling, and the way customers move through their entire visit. Her philosophy is simple. The work in the bay should be matched by clarity and respect everywhere else.

She handles the side of the business that customers actually feel day to day: clear communication, honest estimates, scheduling that respects your time, and a front-office experience built so nothing falls through the cracks. If you've ever left a shop confused about what you paid for, Katie's whole job is to make sure that never happens here. She specializes in operations, marketing and growth, customer experience, and the behind-the-scenes systems that keep a busy shop running smoothly.

Here's the honest part. Katie isn't a car person, and she'll tell you so. The auto industry has a reputation for ego, upselling, and making people feel small, and that's exactly the part she's here to fix. She came into this business caring about one thing: that people walk away feeling respected and clear, instead of talked down to. She's the reason the experience at Sager & Sons feels different from the moment you call.

What sets Katie apart is that she treats every customer like a person rather than a transaction. The polish you notice here, the follow-up, the organization, the sense that someone actually has it handled, is usually her work. She doesn't believe in confusing people or rushing them. She believes in plain answers and treating you the way she'd want to be treated if it were her car and her budget on the line.

At the core of what she does is a simple belief: taking care of people's vehicles is really about taking care of their lives. Getting families to work and school safely, keeping people moving, and earning trust the slow and honest way. She'd rather build a customer for life than chase a quick sale.

"You shouldn't have to be a car person to be treated like one matters. That's my job."

Shyanne Sager

Front Desk , Service Advisor

Shyanne has been the voice at the front of Sager & Sons Automotive since 2020, and if you've called the shop, there's a good chance she's already the reason you came back.

As the only daughter and middle child in the Sager family, Shyanne had her own path to figure out first. She tried a few jobs before landing here, and it was the experience of working for people who didn't know her, didn't care about her, and didn't treat customers much better than that, that made her take a second look at what her family had built on the Bench. Once she saw Sager & Sons for what it really was, the decision was easy. Turns out dad's shop was the real world all along, just done right.

She grew up as a competitive cheerleader, and anyone who has spent five minutes with her will tell you that energy never left. COVID ended her competitive career, but it didn't touch her personality. Shyanne is a people person in the truest sense, not as a job skill, but as who she is. She genuinely likes people. She remembers names, remembers vehicles, remembers what someone mentioned last time they were in. Customers don't just leave satisfied, they leave feeling like they talked to someone who actually cared about them.

That's not something you can train. That's just Shyanne.

In her role as Service Advisor, she handles the communication that keeps customers informed and comfortable throughout the repair process. Scheduling, updates, estimates, answering questions without making anyone feel dumb for asking, she owns all of it. She's the bridge between the technical work happening in the bays and the customer waiting on the other end of the phone, and she takes that responsibility seriously.

What makes her stand out in an industry that often struggles with customer trust is simple: she treats every single person who walks through that door or picks up the phone like they matter. Because to her, they do.

"The relationships are my favorite part. I want every customer to feel like they're talking to a friend, not a service desk."

Austin Summers

Lead Technician

Austin is the oldest of the Sager kids, and his story with this shop goes back further than most employees can claim. Katie was a young mom when she had him, and in a lot of ways they grew up together. That early bond shaped who Austin is: resilient, hardworking, and deeply loyal to the people and things that matter to him.

He started working alongside Dan in the garage at 16, learning the trade the right way from the beginning. After years of building his skills, Austin spent six years out on his own, figuring out adulthood, raising a family, and getting his footing in the world. Now he's back where he started, working alongside his dad and brothers, and bringing everything he learned along the way with him.

Austin is the shop's diesel specialist and knows the Powerstroke engine inside and out. Early model Powerstroke diagnostics, fuel systems, performance issues, the jobs that make other techs nervous are usually the ones Austin is most interested in. He approaches every repair with the same mindset Dan instilled in him: diagnose it properly, fix it right, and don't cut corners.

Outside the shop he is a devoted husband and father of six kids of his own. The man knows a thing or two about responsibility.

"The harder the job, the more satisfying it is to get it right."

Alec Sager

ASE Certified Technician

Alec is kid number two in the Sager family, and he came into the shop the honest way: he went out and worked somewhere else first. He put in his time at Big O Tires, learned the basics of production shop life, and then made his way over to the family operation around age 19. The experience gave him a solid foundation and a clear sense of what kind of shop he actually wanted to work in.

He is ASE Certified and brings genuine attention to detail to every vehicle he touches. Alec is thorough, dependable, and the kind of technician who won't sign off on something unless he's confident it's right. He has two kids of his own and the kind of steady, no-drama work ethic that makes a shop run smoothly.

Fair warning: Alec is a technician in the truest sense. He prefers cars over people, which honestly puts him in good company around here. You might not get a lot of small talk out of him, but you will get a properly diagnosed and correctly repaired vehicle every single time.

"The car doesn't lie. Figure out what it's telling you and fix that."

Gage Sager

ASE Certified Technician

Gage has been working in the shop full time since he was 15 years old, and at nearly 18 he is already one of the most naturally curious technicians on the team. He earned his ASE certification as the youngest in the family to do so, which tells you everything you need to know about how seriously he takes the trade.

What makes Gage different is the way his mind works. He doesn't just want to fix the problem. He wants to understand exactly why it happened and whether there's a smarter way to approach it. That combination of curiosity and drive is rare in a technician at any age, and it's the foundation of someone who is going to be exceptional at this for a long time.

He loves to tinker, loves to figure things out, and brings an energy to the shop that is contagious. The next generation of Sager technicians is in very good hands.

"I want to know how it works, why it failed, and if there's a better way to fix it."

Elliott Sager

Technician In Training

Elliott is the youngest of the Sager crew, and if you come into the shop you might catch a glimpse of him before he disappears. He is genuinely shy, quietly hardworking, and the kind of kid who keeps his head down and gets things done without needing any fanfare about it.

He keeps the shop clean, organized, and running efficiently, which matters more than most people realize in a busy repair operation. Elliott is learning the trade from the ground up, surrounded by his dad and brothers every single day, and the foundation he is building right now is solid.

He may not stop to chat, and he will almost certainly avoid eye contact if you try to corner him, but the work he puts in behind the scenes keeps this shop moving. The Sager legacy is in good hands with this one, even if he'd rather you not make a big deal about it.

"Learning something new every day and working with my family."

Padfoot

Morale Officer - Greeter

Padfoot has been on the job for nearly 8 years and has not once considered a quieter approach to customer service.

He is a Mini Aussie with strong opinions about everyone who walks through the door, and he will make sure you know he has noticed you. The bark is loud, it is immediate, and it is non-negotiable. Whether you are a first time customer or someone who has been coming in for years, Padfoot treats every arrival like it requires an announcement. Because in his mind, it does.

He is Katie's shadow and takes that responsibility seriously. Where she goes, he goes. What she does, he supervises. It is a full time commitment and he has never once called in sick.

Customers either love him immediately or learn to love him after the initial shock of the greeting wears off. Either way, nobody leaves without knowing he was there.

"Someone has to announce the arrivals around here. Might as well be me."
