Brake Services in Boise, ID

Brake system inspection before any parts get replaced

Squealing, grinding, a soft pedal, or a car that pulls when you stop, your brakes are telling you something. Ignoring those signals doesn't make them go away, it makes the repair more expensive.

At Sager & Sons, we inspect the your brake system, pads, rotors, calipers, lines, and fluid, and show you exactly what we find before recommending anything.

We show you before we fix anything.

Complimentary digital inspection with photos sent straight to your phone, so you see what we see and can make a confident decision.

What Our Brake Service Includes

A complete inspection on every visit, not just the part that's squeaking

🔍

Brake Pad Inspection

We measure pad thickness and flag anything approaching minimum spec before it becomes a problem.

⚙️

Rotor Condition Check

We measure rotor thickness and check for warping, scoring, and heat stress, not just whether they look okay from the outside.

🔧

Caliper & Hardware Inspection

Sticking calipers are one of the most common causes of uneven brake wear and pulling. We check every caliper for proper operation.

💧

Brake Fluid Check

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, lowering its boiling point. We check condition and level and flag it if a flush is due.

🛑

Brake Line & Hose Inspection

Cracked or soft brake lines are a safety issue.

📱

Digital Inspection Report

Photos and notes sent to your phone with every visit. You see what we see, no vague explanations, no pressure.

Signs Your Brakes Need Attention

Don't wait for the grinding, these are earlier warning signs

Squealing or squeaking when braking
Grinding or metal-on-metal sound
Brake pedal feels soft, spongy, or low
Vehicle pulls left or right when stopping
Steering wheel or pedal vibrates when braking
Brake warning light is on
Longer stopping distances than usual
Burning smell after driving or stopping

Why Brake Problems Shouldn't Be Ignored

A worn pad today is a rotor replacement tomorrow

Brake issues don't improve on their own. What starts as a worn pad, a quick, inexpensive fix, turns into a scored rotor if you wait, adding significant cost to the repair.

In more serious cases, a stuck caliper or failing brake line can cause brake fade, loss of control, or a complete hydraulic failure. Your brakes are not the place to gamble on timing.

Worn pads destroy rotors, turning a $150 fix into a $400 one
Soft pedal or spongy feel can indicate air or fluid contamination
Pulling while braking can indicate a stuck caliper wearing one side only
Grinding can mean metal-on-metal contact, rotors are already being damaged
Brake fluid neglect reduces stopping power in heat or heavy use

Brake Service FAQs

Straight answers about brakes and what to expect

How often should I have my brakes inspected?
Once a year or every 12,000 miles is a good baseline. If you hear squealing, feel vibration, or notice longer stopping distances, don't wait, bring it in sooner.
Is it safe to drive with squealing brakes?
Squealing usually means pads are getting low but still have some life. Grinding means metal-on-metal contact and the rotors are being damaged, that's not safe to keep driving on. Either way, get it looked at soon.
What causes brakes to squeal even when they're not worn?
Cold mornings, light surface rust from sitting overnight, glazed rotors, or a small piece of debris can all cause temporary squealing. If it goes away after the first few stops, it's usually nothing. If it persists, bring it in.
How long does a brake service take?
An inspection takes 30-45 minutes. A full pad and rotor replacement on one axle typically takes 1-2 hours. We'll give you a clear timeline when you drop off.
