Power Steering Fluid Service in Boise, ID

Protect your pump, rack, and seals before they fail

Power steering fluid doesn't last forever. It slowly collects metal particles, moisture, and varnish from inside the system. When fluid gets dirty or degraded, it puts major stress on your power steering pump, steering rack and pinion, internal seals, and hoses and pressure lines.

At Sager and Sons Auto, we perform complete power steering fluid exchange services using fresh, manufacturer-correct fluid specific to your vehicle's system.

Exchange versus top-off are not the same thing.

Topping off contaminated fluid just dilutes the problem. A proper exchange removes the old degraded fluid and replaces it completely, protecting the whole system going forward.

Power Steering FAQs

Straight answers about steering fluid service

How often should power steering fluid be changed?
Most manufacturers recommend every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, but many vehicles have never had it done by the time they come to us. If you don't know when it was last serviced, bring it in and we'll check the condition.
Can I just top off the fluid instead of exchanging it?
Topping off dilutes contaminated fluid but doesn't remove it. If your fluid is dark, burnt-smelling, or contaminated, a proper exchange is the right fix. We'll check the condition and tell you honestly which one you need.
What happens if I ignore power steering fluid problems?
Contaminated or low fluid accelerates wear on your power steering pump and rack. Pump replacements typically run several hundred dollars. Rack and pinion repairs can cost considerably more. Fluid service is significantly cheaper.
Do electric power steering vehicles need this service?
Electric power steering systems don't use hydraulic fluid. If your vehicle has electric power steering, this service doesn't apply. We'll confirm your system type when you bring it in.
